Our Cultural Surrender To Screens Has Bred An Entirely Unserious Generation

Published

on

“We are becoming sillier by the minute.”

Such was Neil Postman’s judgment in 1985. In Amusing Ourselves to Death, he warned against the consequences of the decline of a print-based culture in favor of “a television-based epistemology.” That meant a retreat from the mental effort of traditional literacy in favor of a mind-altering technology. “As culture moves from printing to televising, its ideas of truth move with it.” The truth of things is easily missed in the screen’s succession of images and spectacles with the lifespan of a mayfly.

By now, silly is too mild a word. Cell phones and social media have done more than accelerate the transformation of reading into viewing. They displaced it. The swap stunts culture at its source. The word “influencer” is no longer an ordinary noun; it has become a career goal. To some 26 percent of today’s young people, it eclipses occupational choices that require training and formal qualifications like a college degree. The thrill of online affirmation, measured in followers, crowds out time-honored pride in useful work.

One gauge of American cultural decline is the vanishing tally of public intellectuals beside a swelling number of wired celebrities. Influencers are social media performers, pitchmen for an infinity of purposes from brands to lifestyles. They capitalize on the investment of young audiences in their own self-image as knowing consumers of attitudes and gear trending in their social scene.

By contrast, public intellectuals were reflective writers, editors, and trained and tested scholars who addressed an

The J.D. Vance Pick Is A Win For Wives Everywhere Begging Their Husbands To Keep The Beard

Published

on

Upon hearing Monday’s news that Donald Trump had selected Sen. J.D. Vance as his 2024 running mate, commentators and history buffs were quick to notice that the veep choice breaks the longstanding “beard barrier” on American presidential tickets.

Axios reports that Vance would be the first vice president with facial hair since President Herbert Hoover’s running mate Charles Curtis donned the mustache in 1933. Others noted Vance would be the first candidate on a presidential ticket with a full beard since Benjamin Harrison in 1892, although the 1916 Republican presidential nominee Charles Evans Hughes’ facial hair could arguably fall within the “full beard” range. Either way, that’s more than 100 years of clean-shaven statesmen, and women everywhere are rejoicing that the drought of dapperness is over.

While you may occasionally hear women demurring about the facial hair of their significant others, it’s objectively true that a good and well-kept — not patchy, adolescent, or overgrown — beard can transform and elevate a man’s attractiveness, and even his political prospects.

Consider the baby-faced Sen. Ted Cruz in 2016, who was a near-perfect GOP nominee on paper, but not in the mirror (he was often compared to a “blobfish” by internet goblins). After his primary loss to Trump, and his narrow victory over Beto O’Rourke in 2018, Cruz came back from a Thanksgiving recess with “a filled-out salt-and-pepper beard, giving his face a defined jawline and its first-ever hints of ruggedness and affability,” and the senator hasn’t looked back since. I can’t

Biden’s Team Deliberately Kneecapped Trump’s Security To Allow An Assassination Attempt

Published

on

Nobody wants to hear this because of the implications, but oh well, because it needs to be said: Joe Biden’s security regime deliberately and with malice and forethought created the conditions that led to an attempted assassin shooting Donald Trump in the head. It is by the grace of God that he lived and our nation is not currently in the midst of a violent civil war.

They deliberately starved Trump’s security team of the resources it needed. And they did it repeatedly, over many weeks and months.

With Trump’s security detail understaffed, under-resourced, and stretched to its limits, Biden’s security regime reportedly diverted even more resources to a hastily planned Jill Biden event that just happened to be in the area.

Biden’s security regime then ordered the most obvious assassination perch in the entire area to remain outside the main security perimeter.

Furthermore, Biden’s Secret Service director ordered law enforcement and counter-snipers OFF the roof the assassin used.

If that weren’t enough, Biden’s security regime also refused to block the line of sight from the assassin’s perch to Trump’s location. When law enforcement radioed in a suspicious person using a laser range finder at the building and even took photos of him, nothing was done to detain the assassin.

The assassin was so obviously a threat that bystanders at the event begged law enforcement to stop him, but nothing happened. And even as snipers on the roof near Trump saw a gunman on the

Donald Trump Jr.’s Latest MSNBC Face-Off Proves Republicans Can’t Hate Corporate Media Enough

Published

Republicans hoping to learn how to deal with the corrupt corporate media and their never-ending stream of lies should look no further than Donald Trump Jr.’s recent exchange with MSNBC’s Jacob Soboroff at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

Soboroff approached Trump Jr. and his brother Eric Trump during the convention on Monday asking them to preview their father’s ruling style if he is elected to the White House for a second time. He also asked Trump Jr. to agree that the 45th president is a “divisive figure.”

“Your father as president, I think you would even say was a divisive figure. What’s it going to look like in the second term?” Soboroff asked Trump Jr.

“I don’t think he was a divisive figure at all,” Trump Jr. retorted. “I think the media created divisiveness around him. They lied about Russia, Russia collusion. They said he was a traitor. They went after him in every whichways possible.”

Trump Jr. is right. Ever since his dad descended the golden escalator in 2015, the propaganda press have done nothing but lie, hoax, and smear the Republican’s name and political career to advance Democrats’ “get Trump” agenda.

It doesn’t matter to outlets like MSNBC that a significant number of Americans voted for Trump in 2016 and tell pollsters they would do the same if the 2024 presidential election were held today. Their goal from the beginning was to do everything they could to stop Trump and silence his voters by whatever means
