Our Cultural Surrender To Screens Has Bred An Entirely Unserious Generation

Published

“We are becoming sillier by the minute.”

Such was Neil Postman’s judgment in 1985. In Amusing Ourselves to Death, he warned against the consequences of the decline of a print-based culture in favor of “a television-based epistemology.” That meant a retreat from the mental effort of traditional literacy in favor of a mind-altering technology. “As culture moves from printing to televising, its ideas of truth move with it.” The truth of things is easily missed in the screen’s succession of images and spectacles with the lifespan of a mayfly.

By now, silly is too mild a word. Cell phones and social media have done more than accelerate the transformation of reading into viewing. They displaced it. The swap stunts culture at its source. The word “influencer” is no longer an ordinary noun; it has become a career goal. To some 26 percent of today’s young people, it eclipses occupational choices that require training and formal qualifications like a college degree. The thrill of online affirmation, measured in followers, crowds out time-honored pride in useful work.

One gauge of American cultural decline is the vanishing tally of public intellectuals beside a swelling number of wired celebrities. Influencers are social media performers, pitchmen for an infinity of purposes from brands to lifestyles. They capitalize on the investment of young audiences in their own self-image as knowing consumers of attitudes and gear trending in their social scene.

By contrast, public intellectuals were reflective writers, editors, and trained and tested scholars who addressed an

RFK Jr. Calls Out Media-Government Censorship Complex

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. said three issues inspired him to run for president: ending the Russia-Ukraine war, healing chronic disease, and stopping censorship. The latter issue, he said, helped sink his campaign.

“Governments and oppressors don’t censor lies. They don’t fear lies,” Kennedy said. “They fear the truth, and that’s what they censor.”

Kennedy spoke Friday, suspending his campaign and endorsing former President Donald Trump’s reelection. He said while his poll numbers reached more than 20 percent in some cases, the Democrat machine was determined to keep the people from electing him.

The Democrat Party manufactured a narrative of support for President Joe Biden, according to Kennedy. He said when Biden inevitably could no longer run due to his age, the party conducted a “palace coup,” bypassing the primaries to install Vice President Kamala Harris as the party’s nominee.

“In the name of saving democracy, the Democratic Party set itself to dismantling it,” Kennedy said. “Lacking confidence that its candidate could win in a fair election at the voting booth, the DNC waged continual legal warfare against both President Trump and myself.”

He said his father Bobby Kennedy and uncle John F. Kennedy – both Democrats during their lifetimes – would not recognize today’s Democratic Party.

Kennedy said these efforts to bypass democracy, Democrats’ continual buzzword, went deeper.

He detailed the deep, institutionalized censorship complex between leftist media and federal agencies, calling it a “naked exercise of executive power.”

“President Biden and his White House opened up a portal, and

RFK Jr. Eviscerates Democratic Party For ‘Palace Coup’ Harris Nomination

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. went scorched earth on Friday against the Democrat party for launching a coup against President Joe Biden in order to replace him with Vice President Kamala Harris — who went from being one of the most unpopular vice presidents in history to suddenly leading former President Donald Trump in the polls.

Kennedy has moved to withdraw his name in at least two battleground states for now — Arizona and Pennsylvania. Kennedy said he will remain on the ballot in states that are comfortably Republican or Democrat.

The decision comes as Democrats have tried to use lawfare to knock Kennedy off the ballot in key states, just as they did to Trump. Kennedy slammed the process as undemocratic before decrying the “palace coup against President Joe Biden.”

“In the name of saving democracy, the Democratic Party set itself to dismantling it. Lacking confidence in its candidate — that its candidate could win in a fair election at the voting booth — the DNC waged continual legal warfare against both President Trump and myself,” Kennedy said.

The DNC followed this up by running “a sham primary that was rigged to prevent any serious challenge to President Biden,” Kennedy continued. “Then, when a predictably bungled debate performance precipitated the palace coup against President Biden, the same, shadowy DNC operatives appointed his successor — also without an election.”

“They installed a candidate that was so unpopular with voters that she dropped out

RFK Jr. Trashes Estrogenic Seed Oils In Trump Endorsement Speech

Environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. ripped the American health care system as a sick care system as he ended his own White House campaign Friday and endorsed former President Donald Trump.

Speaking in Phoenix, Ariz., Kennedy explained Americans are getting sick from a food supply saturated with hyper-processed consumables laden with seed oils and environmental toxins.

“We spend more on health care than any country on Earth,” Kennedy said, “and we have the worst health outcomes of any nation… Nobody has a chronic disease burden like we have.”

In the 1960s, when Kennedy’s uncle was president and his father the U.S. attorney general, American health spending was just 5 percent of gross domestic product. By 2021, it was more than 18 percent of GDP. Obesity rates have also tripled since the early 1960s ushered in the industrialization of the food supply and the low-fat diet craze.

Kennedy outlined the numbers in his Arizona address wherein “half Americans have prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.”

“When I was a boy, juvenile diabetes was practically non-existent,” Kennedy said, explaining the typical pediatrician rarely saw a case of adolescent diabetes. “Today, one out of every three kids who walks through his office door is diabetic or pre-diabetic.”

“There’s been an explosion of neurological illnesses that I never saw as a kid,” he added, while childhood obesity is now jeopardizing military readiness. “There’s nobody else in the world that is experiencing this. This is only happening in America.”

Kennedy blamed a corrupt sick care system catering to a population hooked on
