Joe Biden needs lots of rest. Earning $400,000 a year as president of the United States is exhausting work.

And it’s been a rough weekend for Biden. His schedule had him starting his weekend time off at Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Friday at 2:15 p.m., but it was 3:30 before his motorcade snarled local traffic on Route 1 on his way to the beach. Gaa! Late.

Then when he got to his beach house, thanks to Hurricane Helene, the sky was overcast, and the waves were really high. Don’t you hate when you go to the beach and the weather is subpar?

Meanwhile Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, and Tennessee were being terrorized by Helene. Flooding surged into villages and cities. Mudslides and torrents of water washed away everything in their path: homes, bridges, powerlines.

By Saturday, millions were without power, hundreds — maybe thousands — of vehicles were destroyed, and most devastating, by Sunday, more than 110 people were reported dead.

Wails of grief and heartache surely echoed throughout the land as broken Americans came to understand the enormity of what was lost. Lives changed forever this weekend.

Fortunately, Biden’s 1967 Corvette Stingray was safe and dry in his beach home garage.

Saturday, Biden’s communications staff pulled together a 190-word statement in response.

Americans throughout several southeastern states are enduring catastrophic devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. So naturally, America’s lamebrain Democrat president and vice president are missing in action.

After making landfall in Florida late last week, the Category 4 hurricane ripped across the Southeast over the weekend, producing massive flooding and mudslides. At least 110 people across six states are reported to have been killed as of Sunday night, according to The New York Times.

Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee were among the regions hardest hit by the storm. According to the Associated Press, residents in Asheville, North Carolina, had to be airlifted from a hospital due to floodwaters engulfing entire roadways throughout the city.

Yet, despite such widespread suffering among the people they were elected to serve, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris — the latter of whom is running to be our next president — seem to have bigger things to worry about.

As my colleague Tristan Justice noted, Biden spent most of his weekend lounging around on Rehoboth Beach in Delaware. Meanwhile, Harris reportedly attended a campaign event in San Francisco on Saturday and a fundraiser in Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon. She concluded her weekend at a political rally in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Sunday night.

The White House has issued statements from both Democrats and a “fact-sheet” on what actions it’s supposedly taking to help local officials address the crises.

But beyond their truth-deprived base, those of us who’ve closely watched this dumpster

President Joe Biden remained lounging at the beach this weekend while Appalachian valleys in North Carolina and Tennessee suffered deadly flooding from Hurricane Helene.

As of Sunday morning, dozens had died across the southeastern United States, but the death toll is likely to rise following the torrential downpour from the Category 4 storm that smashed into the Big Bend of Florida on Thursday.

Biden’s public schedule had him depart for Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, on Friday, the day after the hurricane’s initial landfall. He was initially expected to be there through late Sunday evening, but the president reportedly returned to Washington earlier on Sunday as tensions escalate in the Middle East.

Floodwaters almost completely isolated the North Carolina city of Asheville from the outside world, breaking roads and knocking out power and cell service. State officials are scrambling to airlift supplies into the region. Ryan Cole, the assistant director for emergency services in Buncombe County, said the “Biblical” flooding had wrought devastation in the area.

“You’ve heard us say, ‘catastrophic devastation within our county.’ I would go a little bit further and say we have Biblical devastation through the county,” Cole told reporters Saturday. “We’ve had Biblical flooding here, and it has been extremely significant.”
